IT Support Ottawa

Ottawa IT support has a question Toronto doesn't ask: who is allowed to touch the system. If your work touches a federal contract, the answer runs through screening, ITSG-33 controls and, for defence supply chains, CPCSC. We're not on Albert Street and we'll say so plainly. We're a CCIE-led Canadian team covering the NCR remotely, with engineers who travel for the work that needs hands.

The short answer

What does IT support in Ottawa actually cover?

Request a consult

The same day-to-day as anywhere: a desk your staff can reach, remote fixes, patching, endpoints, email security, backups and joiners and leavers. Ottawa adds a gate. If any of your work sits under a federal contract with security requirements, the organisation has to be screened before any of its people can be, and then each person needs screening of their own. That sequence is slow, it's run by Public Services and Procurement Canada, and it's the thing that decides who can answer your ticket.

How we cover Ottawa

We don't have an Ottawa office, and you should know that before you read any further. Our engineers work out of North York and travel for the work that needs hands. What that costs you is same-day attendance for a physical fault. What it doesn't touch is the part of an Ottawa IT support contract that actually decides the outcome: who's screened, which controls your evidence maps to, and whether somebody picks up at 03:00. A federal buyer chooses on the gate, not on the drive.

What the distance does change

  • Same-day attendance for a dead switch or a failed uplink
  • Being physically present on a first morning, which we schedule rather than assume
  • Anything behind a locked comms room door, which needs a booked visit

What the distance does not change

  • The desk, remote fixes, patching, endpoints and the overnight alert
  • Screening status, which is a federal process and not a postcode
  • Control mapping against ITSG-33 and, where it applies, CPCSC
  • Bilingual service, which is a staffing question rather than a geographic one

On-site visits are booked against your change window, and we quote the travel rather than hiding it.

Who you get

Who answers

Tier 1 to tier 3 in the same team, so escalating is a conversation. The escalation path ends at a named engineer rather than at whoever is free, which matters more in Ottawa than elsewhere because the pool of people allowed to touch your system may be small by design.

The work

What we take over

  1. What you have now:

A queue where the same fault gets diagnosed three times

    What the engagement leaves:

Tier 1 to tier 3 in house, so an escalation is a conversation

  2. What you have now:

An evidence pack assembled the week before an assessment, from memory

    What the engagement leaves:

Control mapping kept current, against what's deployed rather than what's planned

  3. What you have now:

No written answer to "who is cleared to see this"

    What the engagement leaves:

A written, honest statement of who can access what, and under which screening

  4. What you have now:

An after-hours number that reaches an answering service

    What the engagement leaves:

After-hours terms written into the agreement rather than onto a brochure

  5. What you have now:

A provider who learned about ITSG-33 from your RFP

    What the engagement leaves:

A named engineer who knows the estate, and travels when the fault is physical

This is the shape of an Ottawa support contract, not a single client.

Questions about IT Support

A desk your staff can reach, remote fixes, patching, endpoint and email security, backups, joiners and leavers, and an escalation path that reaches an engineer rather than a second ticket. For Ottawa work we add the part most support contracts leave out: keeping your control mapping current so the evidence exists before an assessment asks for it, rather than being assembled the week before.

Here's the honest answer, because this is the question to ask everyone. Security screening is granted by Public Services and Procurement Canada, not claimed by a supplier. The organisation is screened first, through a Designated Organization Screening for Protected information or a Facility Security Clearance for Classified, and only then can individual staff be put forward for Reliability Status, Secret or Top Secret. Tell us what your contract requires and we'll tell you plainly what we hold today and what we'd need to obtain, including when the answer is that we're not the right supplier for that piece of work.

Yes. We work in English and French, which in the National Capital Region is a service question rather than a courtesy. It's worth checking with any provider you're comparing, because a desk that handles French only during Eastern business hours is a different product from one that handles it whenever the ticket arrives.

We say so on purpose. Our engineers work out of North York and travel for anything physical, which we book against your change window and quote rather than bury. Everything else, the desk, the monitoring, the patching, the control mapping and the escalation, runs the same wherever it sits. If your requirement is genuinely a technician in the building inside an hour, a local firm will serve you better and we'll say so on the call.

No. We support company-owned estates under a contract, so we're not a repair shop. Ottawa has plenty of good ones and they'll be faster and far cheaper for a personal machine. Where a personal device gets used for work, that's endpoint policy rather than repair, and it's a different conversation.

This page isn't a job posting and a lot of what ranks beside it is. If you're looking for IT support work in Ottawa, the job boards will serve you far better than we will. Any openings we have sit on our careers page rather than here.

Yes. Kanata, Nepean, Orleans, Barrhaven and across the river into Gatineau. Remote work doesn't notice the boundary. On-site attendance does, and a Gatineau address adds a Quebec dimension to privacy that's worth raising early rather than discovering later.
